What can I take this term?
Participants can enroll in each of the following for the Spring Program:
- Path with Art Singers or Veterans Choir, and
- Your choice of another 8-week class,
- Found Fashion class(es),
- One Friday Workshop,
- Art Kit (prioritized for new or online-only participants),
- Open Studio,
- Jam Sessions, and
- Access Art (check back for Access Art signup)
All programming is free and all applicable materials are included. Classes are either virtual or in-person.
Who can join our programs?
To participate in Path with Art programs, you must fulfill the following criteria:
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Earn no more than $36,272 annual income (Veterans are exempt from this requirement).
- Be affiliated with one or more of our partner organizations.
- Provide the name of your case/housing manager at this organization.
- Agree to Path with Art policies for respectful and kind behavior and be considerate and willing to work with others in a safe, fun environment.

Fall Workshops
Join us for your choice of one Fall workshop led by professional teaching artists or peers in the Ambassador program. These workshops offer structured guidance, creative exploration, and time to make art together in community.
Ambassador-Led Workshops are opportunities for your classmates in the Peer Leadership Program to share their creative skills with the wider community. Each workshop is designed and taught by an Ambassador, providing a chance to practice teaching, connect with fellow participants, and explore new art-making together.
Friday Workshops are online-only sessions taught by professional Teaching Artists in a wide variety of topics. These are a great way to “dip your toes” into a particular subject.
Ambassador-Led Workshop: Kinusaiga Art

Join us to learn Kinusaiga, a fun and simple method for crafting quilted-style artwork without a needle or thread. Using fabric scraps, foam board, and a craft knife, participants will trace a drawing onto the board and tuck fabric pieces into each section to build up color and texture. Everyone will complete a finished, textured art piece similar to a mini quilt to take home.
Ambassador-Led Workshop: Introduction to Acrylic Pour Painting

Join us for an introduction to acrylic pour painting, a calming art form centered on color, movement, and play! We will guide you step-by-step through fluid pouring methods to create small abstract pieces in a single session. This session is all about relaxing into the creative process—no art experience needed.
Ambassador-Led Workshop: Woven Paths – Finding Your Rhythm – An Introduction to Basketweaving

Explore the rhythm of basketweaving while creating your own small round basket using a pre-drilled round wooden basket bases, natural reed, and colorful dyed reed. Participants will learn foundational weaving techniques, including twining and over-one/under-one weaving, while exploring how tension, spacing, and the movement of our hands influence the shape of a basket. Contrasting colors will make the weaving patterns easier to see while giving each person the freedom to create an individual design. No basketweaving experience is needed, and the emphasis will be on learning, creativity, mindfulness, and enjoying the process.
Ambassador-Led Workshop: Characters by Chance
1 session: Friday, 11/13 from 3:30–5:30pm Pacific Time

Join us for this fun, game-based workshop where drawing characters is left to the roll of a die! Together, we’ll play quick creation games to design unique creatures—where a 1 might mean an oval head, a 2 gives them curly arms, or a 4 adds spiral tentacles. After a short break, we’ll transform our drawings into a mini zine and craft a short story or poem about our new characters—exploring where they live, who their friends are, and the adventures they go on. No prior drawing or writing experience needed!
Friday Workshop: Visual Analysis – Lomazzo, The Blind Painter
1 session: Friday, 11/20 from 1–3pm Pacific Time
Teaching Artist: Or Vallah Gabaev
In the 1570s, Lomazzo was in his early 30s. He was a successful painter in Milan, and he thought he was at the peak of his career. Then he developed an eye disease that left him blind. He didn’t stop thinking of himself as a painter and continued his career by writing about art. He insisted that his words “shade and color this design,” claiming that language can be used like lines and colors to create a picture. In this workshop, we will observe and discuss several of Lomazzo’s paintings and read some of his poems together to consider how he used words to paint. The workshop will combine short lectures on historical context with collaborative analysis of art through discussion.
Friday Workshop: Mark-Making to Abstraction
1 session: Friday, 12/11 from 1–3pm Pacific Time

Discover the art of abstraction through everyday objects! In this workshop, we will explore how simple three-dimensional objects found around the house can become starting points for abstract two-dimensional artworks. Using objects as templates, we will trace their shapes, experiment with overlapping forms, and build compositions through playful mark-making. By repeating, rearranging, and combining shapes, we will transform familiar objects into unexpected visual compositions. There is no need to draw realistically or create a recognizable image; this session is about experimentation, creative discovery, and finding new ways to see and make art with the materials already around you! No materials mailed for this workshop–please come with a paper and pencil or pen.
Fall Classes
Our multidisciplinary programming spans painting, drawing, illustration, audio editing/podcasting, photography, writing, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, theater, dance/movement, and music. Participants can choose to join us online or in-person. Every quarter features a new set of 7- to 8-week classes providing hands-on skill-building in a variety of disciplines, taught by a roster of over 50 professional teaching artists in an encouraging and supportive community. Classes rotate every term, so there is always something new to explore!

If you love to sing or have always wanted to sing, this is the group for you! In this welcoming and supportive class, we’ll focus on building fundamental music skills—like rhythm, pitch, harmony, and breath control—alongside healthy vocal technique. You’ll learn how to use your voice confidently and expressively as your instrument. Through warm-ups, group exercises, and learning songs together, you’ll develop blend, listening skills, and stage presence while experiencing the joy of singing in community. No prior experience is required—just a willingness to try.
Come sing with us! All experience levels welcome. You may register for Path with Art Singers in addition to another class.
Alternative Drawing: Everyday Impressions
8 sessions: Tuesdays, 10/13–12/8 from 11am–1pm (no class 11/10 or 11/24)

Expand your definition of drawing by capturing the hidden patterns and textures of the world around you! In this class you will step beyond traditional graphite and paper to explore playful, non-traditional mark-making techniques. We will experiment with frottage (surface rubbings), carbon and material transfers, coffee/tea washes, and unexpected drawing tools made from found or household objects. Rather than focusing on a “perfect” picture, this class celebrates curiosity, sensory discovery, and creative agency—turning everyday textures into rich, expressive artwork.

When we tell stories we share parts of our lives with each other, inviting others into our world for a moment so they may better understand us.
In this class we will transform our lived experiences and community stories into brief performance pieces. Each week we will use a variety of acting exercises, writing prompts, and group storytelling to generate original material we will then put up on its feet. You can direct your classmates in a scene you write, perform your own original monologue or poem, improvise a sketch or skit with others – sharing your story in any performative way that you choose.
Whether you’ve got a piece you’re already working on, feel like there is a story in you waiting to get out, or just want to try a different approach to acting and theater this class is for you.
No writing or acting experience necessary – all experiences and levels are welcome.
Sculpting Stories: Personal Narrative & Recycled Form

Transform everyday recycled materials into powerful, personal works of art. In this process-oriented sculpture class, you will learn foundational techniques for building form using lightweight materials like cardboard, paper, and wire—shaping them into custom sculptures, sealing them, and finishing them with rich paint and surface details. Taking inspiration from personal experiences, emotions, or symbolic stories (such as transforming heavy feelings into new energy), you will be guided to construct your own meaningful objects or figures. Through accessible hands-on demos and open studio time, you will explore how simple, found items can be reimagined to give shape to the stories you want to tell.

Collaging into Painting

Collaging into Painting explores collage as a playful way to understand the fundamentals of painting. Through cutting, layering, arranging, and combining painted and found papers, we’ll investigate how shape, value, and color work together to create composition and depth. Collage offers a hands-on way to experiment with these elements before translating them into paint, while also opening up possibilities for texture, contrast, and unexpected combinations. No previous painting or collage experience is required.

Ever wanted to join a jam session and play along without needing music in front of you? This welcoming class turns ear training into a collaborative game. Together, we’ll move from simple ear-led melodies to decoding full songs in real time. By stripping away paper charts, you’ll build deep listening skills, improve rhythm and fretboard awareness, and discover a more natural, joyful way to make music with others.

What happens when a group of artists comes together to create a performance from scratch? Featuring guest artists from Seattle’s acclaimed The Seagull Project, this class introduces students to devising through movement, improvisation, character, text, space, and sound.
Each week, students will work individually and in small groups to develop short scenes, experimenting with different ways of generating material and shaping ideas into performance. Whether you’re curious about acting, interested in how plays are made, or simply want to try something new, this class offers a supportive space to experiment and play.
No previous theatre experience is required. All levels and backgrounds are welcome!
Pages of Possibility: Hand-Bound Collage Journaling

Create a journal that is truly your own—from stitching the pages together to filling them with layered collages, words, and textures. Personal stories help us make meaning of the world. In this class, you’ll explore your life story through expressive journaling, using the arc of your life as a framework for reflection and discovery. Through guided prompts, freewriting, and stream-of-consciousness writing, you’ll experiment with different approaches to introspection, drawing on memory, imagination, and emotion while developing a consistent journaling practice. Together, we’ll create a supportive space for curiosity, reflection, and optional sharing.
No writing experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to explore the page. This class is open to veterans and non-veterans.

We will start with an overview of topics including script analysis, basic acting techniques, design elements, play production and production analysis. Then, we’ll watch and discuss highly acclaimed filmed theatre performances. Engage in a pre-show workshop—exploring themes, characters, and production details. Then, watch the performance on your own between classes and come back together the following week for a lively group discussion.
Whether you’re new to the world of theatre or a longtime fan looking for a crew to chat with, this is your ticket to deeper connection, further understanding of theatrical elements, and great performances! No theatre experience needed!
Paper & Pen: Weekly Poetry Exploration
8 sessions: Thursdays, 10/15–12/10 from 3pm–5pm (no class 11/26 for Thanksgiving)

Uncover new paths to self-expression in Paper & Pen, a dynamic 8-week poetry class. Each week explores a distinct theme—from poems of gratitude and place to hands-on forms like erasure, found poetry, and ekphrastic writing (poetry inspired by visual art). We’ll draw inspiration from classic, contemporary, and experimental works, as we read and discuss poems. Then, using guided exercises, we will craft and share original poems in a relaxed, encouraging group environment.
Whether you write daily or haven’t picked up a pen in years, all experience levels are warmly welcomed!

Drawing from the live model is a tradition in studio art. Visual artists from all disciplines and mediums return to the life-drawing studio because the act of drawing from a live model exercises all aspects of visual art practices. This class will structure life-drawing sessions that include introduction to various methods of drawing the figure for participants to choose from. Timed poses will range from 3-30 minutes. Models will be clothed.
Pre-requisite: This class is best suited for advanced artists. Artists must have completed 2 or more drawing classes at Path with Art (or similar) in order to participate. Please contact program@pathwithart.org with any questions.

Veterans Program
Path with Art offers multidisciplinary arts programming with a specific emphasis on the veteran experience. All veterans are welcome regardless of income. Our programming is guided by the Veterans’ Program Steering Committee, composed of veterans and community members who work with veterans. The Joy of Process: Expressive Watercolor Projects

Discover the expressive, emotional quality of watercolor in a supportive space focused on the joy of making. Each session will begin with a technical demonstration—exploring color studies, layering, masking, and imaginative prompts—before opening up to open project time. Whether you want to experiment with mood and feeling or bring a personal vision to life, this online course emphasizes intuitive process over rigid perfection. If you love to sing or have always wanted to sing, this is the group for you! Facilitated by a Seattle Opera teaching artist, you will gain confidence in your singing voice by learning classical vocal technique and music fundamentals. You’ll also learn about opera history and explore other genres of vocal music. Most importantly, you will have a chance to sing together and connect with fellow veterans.
All experience levels welcome. Come sing with us! You may register for the Veteran’s Choir in addition to another class.
Art Kits
Art Kits are mailed or distributed directly to participants and include all materials needed to complete a project as well as a step-by-step guidebook. Teaching Artists design these professional kits each quarter. Supplies are limited and prioritized for first-time and online-only participants.
Printmaking from Home
Teaching Artist: Shannon Cleere
Relief printmaking from home is fun and easy! This kit provides everything you need to make small, simple linocut prints: rubber block, carving tools, tracing paper, water-based ink, and paper. One carved block can make multiple prints: create your own stationery, postcards, or decorative paper! Relief printmaking is an ideal introduction to the art form: easy to do at home as it does not require special equipment like a printing press. Explore one of the earliest forms of printed communication right from the comfort of your own home!
